Marlaine Verhelst

Marlaine Verhelst = 2 Day Class (Tue-Wed)

“Container Doll with Posable head”

Description: Students will sculpt a doll head in air drying clay in the whimsical style of Marlaine Verhelst and paint the head with watercolor. There will be time for embellishments, hair and hats. Students will take home a finished piece. The doll can stand on its own.

Materials: $25.00 fee (paid directly to the teacher) includes a kit containing all materials.

Supply list: Students need to bring a basic sewing kit and a box (children’s shoe box size) and bubble wrap or other soft material to pack the doll.

Olga Roehl

Olga Roehl = 2 Day Class (Tue-Wed)

“Creativity Workshop”

Description: Students will sculpt and paint a fantasy doll out of air dry paper clay, see example photo. Students will take home a finished piece.

Materials: Olga will supply acrylic paint for all students.

Supply list: Students must bring their own clay, preferably Japanese paperclay, and brushes for painting.

Class size: 6 minimum, 8 maximum

Ankie Daanen

Ankie Daanen = 2 Day Class (Tue-Wed)

“Big Belly Boy”

Description: Students will sculpt from air-dry paper clay, and take home a complete doll.

Materials: $20.00 kit (paid directly to the teacher) includes a Styrofoam egg, wire, clay, and a pattern for costuming.

Supply list: Ankie will bring all tools necessary for sculpting.

Class size: 6 minimum, 12 maximum

Deborah Pope

Deborah Pope = 1 Day Class (Tue)

“Dream Fish”

Description: Students will create a beautiful felt fish that adds a new dimension to sculpting in this wonderful medium. Your fish will be approximately 5-6” long. Dyed merino wool is embellished with paint, beads, and sinuous silk paper fins. This class is a lot of fun and combines traditional wet felting techniques with dry needle felting for a unique look and feel. The finished fish makes a lovely ornamental hanging.

Materials: $25.00 materials fee (paid directly to the teacher) includes patterns, instruction booklet, dyed merino wool, Fiber-fill batt, silk paper, 2 felting needles, copper wire, use of the artist’s fiber paints and felting equipment.

Supply list: Students should bring one old bath towel, wire cutters, sharp scissors, tacky glue, assorted threads and seed beads for embellishing, beading needle and thread, assorted paint brushes.

Deborah Pope

Deborah Pope = 1 Day Class (Wed)

“Haute Chapeaux”

Description: Whether it’s a beret or a bowler, fedora or fez, outlandish or demure, hats make a statement. Students will have an opportunity to add a crowning touch to their creations. A wonderful introduction to felt hat-making that will explore shaping, design, and imaginative embellishing techniques.

Materials: $25.00 materials fee (paid directly to the teacher) includes instruction booklet, patterns for three hat designs, dyed merino wool, embellishment yarns, fibers, buttons, feathers, and hat wire.

Supply list: Students should bring one clean bath towel, sewing needle and thread in assorted colors, yarns and beads for embellishing, beading thread and needle, assorted ribbons (wired is good), sharp scissors (small-medium).

Stephanie Blythe = Half Day Class (Wed)

“How to Turn Your Passion into Profit”

Description: This class offers you an interactive experience and valuable strategies for the “what now?” NIADA Artist Stephanie Blythe has been making a living as a doll artist for over 30 years. During that time she has sold her work to over a hundred shops and galleries, participated in prestigious doll and craft shows worldwide, and co-created and run 2 corporations.

During this workshop students will explore marketing options, wholesale-retail, pricing, artist’s statements, promotion and marketing, as well as techniques for creating short and long term goals.
